Mrs. Schweitzer visits MSU and our MAP students
MAP (Montana Apprenticeship Program) students were visited by dignitaries from the Governor's Office, including Mrs. Nancy Schwietzer, on Friday, July 7. The students are using Microlab equipment in the General Chemistry laboratories. Shown here with Mrs. Schweitzer are Dr. Bill McLaughlin and Vanessa Shoulderblade.
The MAP program is a 6-week summer research experience for students and teachers. Drs. Bill McLaughlin, Angie Sower and Chris Bahn, along with Prof. Mary Cloninger are mentoring students in morning meetings and afternoon lab sessions in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The goal of the MAP is to increase the number of Native American and disadvantaged high school students who want to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math career fields.
Funding for MAP is provided in part by the Howard Hughes Medical Insitute. Dr. John Watts is the director of the program.
